Did you know about... the Disability Forum? The Westlea Disability Forum meets three times a year to give feedback to Westlea about the needs of disabled residents; to share information about services in this area; and to look at practical ways to improve day-to-day living. The Forums are organised by a steering group of residents with support from Westlea. The past year has been busy – we have focused on getting out and about; received advice on money matters including ways to reduce fuel costs; and found out about the support available from the Independent Living Centre, Carers Support, the Wiltshire Independent Travel Scheme, Link and Citizens Advice. Looking ahead to June we will be asking for your ideas and suggestions for the Residents Business Plan. Why not come along? The Forums are well attended, with up to 50 people taking part each time and they are friendly and informal events. We do look at serious issues but we also recognise that social events and activities are also valued. Over the past 12 months we have organised a trip to Longleat, held an arts and crafts morning, and offered workshops on First Aid and the Disability Discrimination Act. Meetings don’t suit everyone and we circulate a newsletter three times a year to keep you updated. Please contact Julie Bielby on 01249 466054 or email julie.bielby@westlea.co.uk if you would like to receive the newsletter. We look forward to hearing from you this year. Rod Case
