Plans to develop new homes on the site of the former police station at Westlea, Swindon, are still being taken forward despite current market conditions – says the housing group that purchased the site last year.

The commitment has been given by Vic O'Brien, Director of New Business and Development for GreenSquare - which includes affordable housing provider Westlea Housing and Oakus which develops new homes for sale.

Vic says his team remain committed to making the project at Westlea happen: "It's true that current market conditions have had a real impact on the new homes programmes for some developers, but our plans for the former Westlea Police station site are still very much on course.

"We're delighted to be working in partnership with Swindon Borough Council on plans to provide around 95 new homes for older people - with more than half of these comprising an 'extra care' scheme with specialist support for these older residents, and access to shared facilities.

"However, a scheme like this can only go ahead with the support of grant funding from the government - and, together with the borough council, we are working hard to secure this now. We do expect that this will take some time but still hope to be able to realise the site's development potential within the next two years."
