Secret Garden project award

The Secret Garden project, run by Westlea's North Wiltshire Women’s Refuge, has won an award for its outstanding contribution to improved health and wellbeing.
The winners of the 2011 Wiltshire Health and Wellbeing Awards were announced at an awards ceremony in Salisbury City Hall on 26 May 2011. There were over 200 nominations for the 9 award categories, with 78 different projects or individuals being considered by the judges – an increase from previous years.
The winner of the liquid media public award for an outstanding contribution to improved health and wellbeing was the Secret Garden Project, North Wiltshire Women’s Refuge. This is a social enterprise that grows and sells plants through local retail outlets, and which aims to enhance confidence, raise awareness of domestic abuse, and promote independence and good health in its participants.
Shortlisted for the improved healthy eating in children, young people, and adults award was Newburn House Mother and Baby Unit Cookery Project. This is a partnership between Westlea and SPLITZ support services that helps residents to cook balanced meals, plan and budget with the aim of living healthier lifestyles.
Also shortlisted for the improvement in mental health and wellbeing award was Community 4, a partnership including DHI, Westlea Housing Association, Alabaré Christian Care & Support and Splitz Support Service. Community 4 provides free, confidential, and independent housing advice to anybody over the age of 16 in the Wiltshire Council area.
Also in the news, the GreenSquare Community Regeneration Board has agreed to fund a one-year apprenticeship placement to drive forward the creation of a fully-fledged social entrprise.
