First Kicks tournament is a hit

First Kicks tournament

Westlea Housing has held its inaugural 'Kicks' community football tournament, in conjunction with the Wiltshire and Swindon Activity and Sports Partnership.

The tournament took place recently at the Beversbrook Sports Facility in Calne and attracted over 40 young people from the area, aged between 11 and 16. They formed five teams to battle it out in matches refereed by Tim Hall and his team from Swindon Town Football in the Community.

Global Games were also on hand at the event with three of their fantastic inflatables, to measure power, accuracy, and sprinting speed.

The final between 'Greenbridge United' and the 'Allstars' ended in a draw. Then followed a nail-biting penalty shootout, which also ended in a draw, meaning the result was decided by a 'golden goal', won by the Allstars.

"All the teams played exceptionally well and the attitude of the young people on the day was outstanding," said Terri Yewkins, from Westlea's Neighbourhood Involvement team. "Everyone who played was awarded a medal and there was a trophy for the winning team and for the player of the tournament."
