Hot water systems -
information and advice

The tragic death of an infant in Taunton due to scalding from a collapsed water storage tank has been headline news recently – and it is understandable that some of you have asked us about the risk to you and your home.

This is an individual case, and the likelihood of similar circumstances existing in Westlea properties is extremely low. However, we will ensure that these factors are checked within our routine maintenance visits. Additionally, if we identify any high risk properties from our records we will arrange inspections immediately.

Our advice is to be cautious and that all residents should be aware of these warning signs to look out for:

• Excessive hot water coming out of the hot water taps
• Excessive noise or ‘bubbling’ from the hot water cylinder
• Hot water coming from cold water taps
• Steam or moisture in the roof space

If you experience any of these it is recommended you switch off the electric immersion heater immediately and call our Repairs Helpline on 01249 466100 so that we can arrange to visit your home and check all is well.
