The Army Cadet Force (ACF) is one of the UK's most popular and successful youth organisations. Started in 1860, it now has over 1700 detachments, 7000 adult volunteers, and over 45,000 cadets. Sponsored by the Army, the ACF provides challenging, adventurous, and character-building training for young people. In addition to military skills, first aid and leadership training, the ACF offer expeditions (Duke of Edinburgh's Award), exercises, sport and fitness, Ten Tors, watermanship, canoeing, climbing, shooting, Community engagement... This list goes on. Fun first. This is coupled with personal satisfaction and a sense ,of achievement. Also the opportunity to go places, develop yourself, and take advantage of the Duke of Edinburgh's awards and other national vocational schemes. Young people (male and female) between 12 (in Year 8 of education) and 18.75 years old are welcomed as cadets. We also require adult volunteer instructors to help run our detachments (normally aged 20 plus). Previous military service is not necessarily required.
