| We
own and manage over 600 homes in Wiltshire for people aged 55 or over;
this accommodation provides a safe and secure environment for residents
whilst promoting independent living.
Residents
in our over-55s accommodation are linked to a central alarm system which provides 24-hour emergency help every day of the year. And our staff work with residents to develop individually-tailored
support services and to offer them greater choice.

Westlea works to reach out to vulnerable older people in the community
– we have reviewed our services to check how well they meet
their particular needs. We established our Older Persons’ Forum
in 2005 as one way of ensuring feedback and promoting customer involvement
in the development of our services.
We offer assistance to residents who need help managing their garden
and arrange for home adaptations (walk-in showers, for example) to
make life easier.
And older people have also benefited from Westlea’s involvement
with the eWiltshire project – broadband internet access points
at two of our over-55s housing schemes have generated new enthusiasm
for learning about, and using, new technology.

The service
we offer to older people – including those living in over-55
accommodation – is delivered by:
• support workers, who give individual help to each customer;
and
• scheme coordinators, who look after the over-55 accommodation
buildings and arrange events.

'Support Service for older people' leaflet - supplied here as
